| Coordinate Gifted/Talented and Advanced Placement services for students identified as gifted. Ensure compliance with the Ohio Department of Education and Ohio Operating Standards for identifying and serving gifted students in accordance with Ohio Administrative Code 3301-51-15. Work within the classroom to create and demonstrate effective instructional strategies for students that are academically advanced. Ensure compliance with district, state, and federal mandates. NOTE: Position requires teaching experience and certification. | |
| DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: |
- Assess current Gifted and Advanced Placement Programs for effectiveness
- Consults and coordinates services for Gifted and AP students in the program
- Consultations in the design and modeling of differentiated and creative problem-solving strategies for implementation by teachers and staff
- Communicates gifted education topics, instructional strategies for advanced learners, and compliance information regularly through written material, classroom visits, and professional development presentations
- Participates as a district representative for the special education department at IEP conferences, WEP conferences, Acceleration Team meetings, IBA meetings, and parent conferences.
- Conducts compliance audits for special education services
- Reports to the Manager of Gifted Education for assistance with GT, AP, and other Special Education initiatives as needed
- Assists with the screening, identification, coding, and placement of gifted students
- Assists with the writing and dissemination of invitation letters for students qualifying for gifted services
- Assists in teacher training and the development and implementation of individual Written Education Plans to meet the academic and social/emotional needs of gifted students
- Assists with designing modifications and accommodations for students identified as Twice Exceptional (identified as both gifted and with special needs).
- Refers families for supportive counseling for gifted students exhibiting academic, emotional, and/or behavior difficulties.
- Initiates psychological referrals for individual achievement and cognitive testing when current test data is not available.
- Provides teachers and administrators with up to date department information and procedures.
- Provides professional development trainings and information for all CMSD staff as needed.

- Gifted Intervention Specialist Licensure and Master's Degree required
- Five years successful teaching experience with outstanding evaluations from immediate supervisor/administrator
- Experience in and evidence of classroom use of differentiated instructional strategies to meet the needs of advanced learners
- Knowledge of Ohio identification and service criteria for gifted students
- Knowledge of Written Education Plans, ODE Model Acceleration Policy, and the College Board AP Course Audit Process
- Ability to make presentations to various groups including District and school administrators, teachers, psychologists, guidance counselors, parents, and students
- Experience in a culturally diverse setting
- Ability to function as a part of a multi-disciplinary team
- Willingness to work beyond regularly scheduled work hours when necessary
- Willingness to serve on various curriculum committees to adopt new and innovative GT and AP programming
