Job Description

Division: Family and Community Engagement
TITLE: Student / Family Recruiter

The salary for this position is $40,000.


The Cleveland Metropolitan School District is in the midst of the most far-reaching transformation plan in CMSD history to dramatically improve the quality of educational programs for Clevelands public school students. The strategy to increase student achievement and ensure success is effective implementation of The Cleveland Plan.

We are seeking to hire a Student Recruiter(s) who will lead, facilitate, and measure the impact of a recruiting function(s) for the District. As this is a new function to our District, we are looking for someone who is entrepreneurial and interested in building the recruiting function for CMSD. The responsibilities of this role include participation in the on-going development of the strategic recruiting plan, building partnerships, developing and tracking recruitment metrics. This role will involve close collaboration with several departments in CMSD. The Student/Family Recruiter(s) will report to the Executive Director of Family and Community Engagement or the CEOs designee.

Note: The number of Recruits and Retention rates are factors for determining continued employment status for this At-Will, Exempt position.

  1. Quantifiably increase student enrollment through recruitment and retention of students/families
  2. Meet or exceed monthly, quarterly, and annual recruitment targets and goals
  3. Manage a strategic recruiting function for CMSD: Participating in the development and measurement of annual and quarterly strategic recruitment plans, efforts, and results
  4. Use enrollment projection data to inform recruitment plan and follow up actions
  5. Develop a recruitment calendar with key recruiting events (e.g., job fairs)
  6. Develop and track key recruitment metrics (e.g., school/program interest, options, and available seats)
  7. Counsel, support, and provide guidance to students/families in exploring CMSD school choice options
  8. Field and process inbound inquiries and collect information, applications, and related feedback from or for students/families
  9. Schedule and document impact of open houses, visits, or tours of schools and related District facilities
  10. Collaborate with communications department on the development of marketing pieces for the recruiting function
  11. Compile monthly, quarterly, and yearly recruitment report analyzing pool of interested, recruited and retained students/families (document and use student/family feedback to improve quality of recruitment strategies)
  12. Build partnerships to enhance and formalize family and community partnerships
  13. Work close with Student Services to identify and provide school options for interested students/families
  14. Utilize expertise of various CMSD departments and staff to recruit
  15. Coordinate with families and Student Services to communicate options, prioritize choices, and identify student and school matches
  16. Coordinate with the Academic division regarding new initiatives that would impact student/families
  17. Implement and direct the implementation District and/or Board of Education policies and procedures
  18. Perform other related duties as required
  1. Bachelors Degree preferred in human resources, public administration, education, social work, business, organizational behavior or related field
  2. Community service related work and volunteer experience preferred
  3. Ability to perform multifaceted tasks concurrently with minimum supervision
  4. High professional and ethical standards for handling confidential information
  5. Demonstrated ability to build mutually respectful relationships with students, parents, school staff, community organizations and leaders
  6. Working knowledge and understanding of strategies that support The Cleveland Plan
  7. Proven experience working in a team oriented environment
  8. Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills
  9. Strong verbal and written communication skills
  10. Ability to perform multifaceted tasks concurrently with minimum supervision
  11. Computer proficiency
  12. Ability to travel and work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends
  13. A personal sense of accountability around the ultimate success of CMSD transformation
  14. Bilingual with the ability to read, speak and write fluently in Spanish

Recruitment and Retention Targets and Goals will be determined and communicated through the Executive Director of Family and Community Engagement or the CEOs designee.
