Job Description

Division: Legal
TITLE: Lawyer, Worker's Compensation
PAY RATE:

The salary for this position is $75,000.

FUNCTION:

The Cleveland Metropolitan School District (CMSD), serves approximately 40,000 students in grades Pre-K-12. The Law Department is responsible for the oversight and handling all legal matters for the District.

The primary purpose of the Lawyer-Workers Compensation is the handling of workers compensation claims and lawsuits.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Provide counsel regarding workers compensation matters
  2. Manage the Districts workers compensation docket
  3. Handle workers compensation matters at the administrative level and in court
  4. Prepare legal documents: draft pleadings, correspondence, discovery
  5. Effectively manage multiple cases simultaneously
  6. Proactively identify and manage issues relating to workers compensation
  7. Provide accurate and timely reporting to the Chief Legal Counsel
QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Member in good standing of Ohio Bar
  2. Demonstrated experience handling workers compensation claims and lawsuits
  3. Demonstrated success in high stakes, high pressure environment
  4. Strong written and verbal communication skills
  5. Strong work ethic, attention to detail and strong interpersonal skills
  6. PREFERRED: Experience handling workers compensation matters as counsel to a school district or public entity
  7. PREFERRED: Experience developing strategies for reducing workers compensation claims
